[Hong Kong, December 2023] – Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns are currently at the forefront, resulting in a heightened demand for industry professionals. Some companies are offering monthly salaries of up to HKD 100,000 to attract ESG analysts, enticing many young talents to venture into this field. The 2nd Kubuqi Awards, comprising the International Desert Sustainable Development Proposal Competition and the “Speak Sustainability” Secondary School Short Video Contest, aims to cultivate students’ business acumen in green finance, broaden their career perspectives, and lay a foundation for their involvement in green finance and ESG industries.
Over the past two months, introductory sessions for the 2nd Kubuqi Awards were successfully conducted at eight universities and institutes, including the Education University of Hong Kong, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin Campus), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Lingnan University. Expert speakers were invited to provide comprehensive industry knowledge, covering topics such as ESG, the green economy, and green financial technology, addressing students’ questions and steering their interest toward relevant career paths. The students’ response was enthusiastic, with active participation in the Q&A session, showcasing a keen interest in the competition.
Mr. Plato Yip, Director of Elion Foundation, emphasized in the briefing session that this competition can guide students to comprehend the green economy, offering significant help in shaping their future career paths: “In the future, various industries will need to incorporate the concept of the green economy. We hope that students can grasp this early on, building a solid foundation and gaining an advantage in the industry’s starting line. This event not only aids students in their future career development but also propels sustainable development in society.”
The 2nd Kubuqi Awards International Desert Sustainable Development Proposal Competition received a total of 87 team registrations, surpassing the participation numbers of the inaugural Kubuqi Award in 2019. The “Speak Sustainability” Secondary School Short Video Contest witnessed an overwhelming registration count of 97 teams.
